“I HATE THE SOUND OF GUITARS”
   A: No Survivors /// B: 4Q

Space-Based Arts, RECESS Gallery, September 2011

This project focuses on the haze that exists between subjective understandings of the same entity while admitting to the fundamental dissonance of being of one consciousness and understanding another. It is an emotional play on the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle (ΔEΔt ≥ ħ/2).

Hand-tied, continuous, cylindrical nets were coated in polyester resin and heated to achieve their respective forms.

A theoretical discussion in basic quantum chemistry describes the probability functions of a single particle confined to a finite potential well. This particle-in-a-box model is useful in conceptualizing the intuitive aspects of Schrödinger wave mechanics. Most strikingly, the probability functions for different energy states (n=1, 2, 3…) do not drop to zero immediately at the boundary of the energy well. This translates to a slight probability of “finding” our particle beyond the limit of the well. As we move up in quantum number (n) and up in energy, the probability functions decrease to zero more slowly. Thus, higher-energy levels show marked non-zero amplitudes outside of the boundaries of the well.
